League action for the Lions after a cup win last week. The windy conditions were going to play havoc for any kind of football to be played.
In the first half Carlton started brightly and began to open the Spiders’ defence. It was not long before the Lions took the lead through Yankuba – his 4th in 2 games.
The Spiders were offering very little with the wind also not helping their cause. Carlton went on to grab a 2nd through top scorer Dan Chambers who managed to get himself onto the score sheet.
In the second half Carlton struggled to get the ball down and were unable to deal with the conditions. At one point it was constant pressure from the Spiders which led through to a break through and a scrappy goal from a corner to make it 2-1.
West Bridgford were on the up but what little breaks the Lions had they could not capitalise on.
It wasn’t long before a moment of hesitation in clearing the ball and a Spiders player taking control with some quick feet slipped if home to make it 2-2.
Carlton had an opportunity at the end with Dan Chambers working his feet to cross the ball but it eventually fell straight to the Spiders’ keeper.
The Lions are away to the league leaders on Wednesday evening – an opportunity to measure up their chances of a title shot.
