About New Basford
There is both an ‘Old Basford’ and a ‘New Basford’ although despite the name, New Basford is mainly Victorian. Basford lies close to the River Leen, a tributary of the River Trent.
Basford over the years had three breweries, of which Shipstones is the best known. The site has now been converted into a business centre, one of three in the area.
There are a number of amenities and places of worship for several faiths in Basford.
There is a good range of shops and the area is also home to Vernon Park. Basford has football teams who play in the area and is home to the Bulwell and Basford Rotary Club.
Children in the Basford area usually attend Southwark Primary and Infants School, Heathfield Primary School, or Old Basford School. The closest senior school to the area is the Ellis Guildford School and Sports College on Bar Lane.
Basford is located on the main route of the NET trams which link Nottingham City Centre to the south, Hucknall and Bulwell. There are also several bus routes which connect Basford to Nottingham city centre. Basford is served by Bus Nos 68, 69, 70 and 71 on the NCT Yellow Line.
